“Conductor joint temperature is normal...” Recently, as part of the crucial supporting project for the "Ningxia Power to Hunan" initiative, the Phase II 2,000 MW photovoltaic project at the Ningxia Tengger Desert New Energy Base has been progressing smoothly towards completion and operation. In tandem with this, transmission line inspection personnel from the State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company have been busy patrolling the 330 kV Poteng I Line, which serves as a critical transmission channel for desert-based new energy.

State Grid Zhongwei Power Supply Company has been proactive in providing services, initiating direct collaboration with relevant stakeholders. During the peak summer electricity demand season, the company carried out inspections on 20 transmission lines located in the Tengger Desert to ensure the safe transmission of new energy. As electricity demand continues to rise, ensuring the operational safety of these lines has become vital for maintaining grid stability. To make inspections more accurate and to promptly identify potential hazards, the company chooses to conduct inspections during the hottest part of the day. This is because, with thermal expansion, the sag of the conductor reaches its maximum, allowing for the most accurate measurement of minimum crossing distances. Additionally, at the highest temperatures, the power load is also at its peak, providing more accurate temperature readings, which aids in identifying potential issues. The company's staff closely monitor the operational status of equipment, carefully checking tower components, inspecting the foundations and grounding devices, and surveying the surrounding environment. Their efforts ensure the green energy transmission corridor remains secure, allowing the continuous flow of clean energy to more than a dozen provinces across the country through the West-to-East Power Transmission Project.

The Tengger Desert, known for its abundant energy resources, has attracted numerous high-quality, efficient, and high-impact new industries. Among these is the country’s first large-scale transmission corridor focused primarily on transmitting new energy from desert areas—the key "Ningxia Power to Hunan" project, which includes the 3,000 MW Zhongwei New Energy Base in the Tengger Desert. Since the first phase of the project was connected to the grid in April last year, these desert-based transmission lines have delivered 2.063 billion kWh of electricity.
